Provence & South of France

EXTREMELY POPULAR TOUR but being a boutique and family run travel group we just can’t run them all at once.

After a welcome dinner in Paris, we take the fast train to Avignon in Provence. With Arles as a base, we drive and walk to Oppede le Vieux, an almost deserted village, for lunch. We explore Menerbes, the Abbey de Senanque, Bonnieux and Roussillon with its quarries, walking the countryside past lavender fields to Gordes and the Bories. In Avignon we can see the famous bridge and take a tour of the Papal Palace.  From Arles we drive to the Pont du Gard, the famous roman ruins in Nimes and have lunch, then drive to our chateau at Gramazie near Carcassone.

The next walk is from Fanjeaux past vineyards and snow capped mountains with lunch in the medieval market place of Mirepoix. Bertrand de Comminges is an unusual lunch stop on the way to walks in the delightful Bagneres de Luchon. We then drive part of the Tour de France and its famous cols, plus take the chair ride to the Pic du Midi, and onto Luz. St. Sauveur to the famous Gavarnie, Troumouse and Cauteret areas. A visit to Lourdes is an option as is a small section of the Camino de Santiago from St. Jean-dePied-de-Port into Spain. We visit the stylish holiday town of Biarritz with a coastal walk before travelling back to Paris as a fitting climax to the tour.
